05:01 pm If we're friends on Twitter, you are probably tired of me complaining. So, uh, sorry about that. I'm about to complain some more.
My power went out Wednesday morning due to a super-nasty ice storm. Trees are down all over the city, it looks a lot like a war zone or something. I took some pictures. I'd post them, but I just don't feel like it anymore.
The good news? Gas heat! Or not... because the thermostat is electric. So the heat doesn't turn on. I do have hot water, so showering is still an option (it's just no fun because eventually I will be wet and naked in my 35 degree-ish apartment).
So my skin is a mess, my kitties are pissed at me, and I am sick as hell of Trivial Pursuit.
Kentucky Utilities says it could be fixed any day, BUUUUT it could be up to two weeks. Awesome!

09:37 pm - Booklist and Whatnot So, tomorrow is New Year’s Eve. I guess that means I should post my 2008 booklist. I didn’t keep track of everything I read this year, and I’m pretty sure I left out a ton of books. Also, I feel like I should mention that this has been a pretty shitty year, and when I am having Bad Times, I tend to pick books of a lighter, fluffier variety. I’ll read better stuff in 2009. And I’ll keep track of it. Maybe.
Booklist 2009:
No One Belongs Here More Than You- Miranda July* Foreskin's Lament- Shalom Auslander* The Yes Man- Danny Wallace Water for Elephants- Sara Gruen Candy Girl- Diablo Cody* A Cook's Tour- Anthony Bourdain The Know-it-All- A.J. Jacobs The Year of Living Biblically- A.J. Jacobs* Such a Pretty Fat- Jen Lancaster Swish- Joel Derfner Lessons in Taxidermy- Bee Lavender The Brief Wondrous Life of Oscar Wao- Junot Diaz* Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist- Rachel Cohn & David Levithan Gingerbread- Rachel Cohn Boy Proof- Cecil Castellucci Beige- Cecil Castellucci Love, Stargirl- Jerry Spinelli the Complete Polysyllabic Spree- Nick Hornby When You Are Engulfed in Flames- David Sedaris Twilight Series- Stephanie Meyer
Graphic Novels and Stuff 2009: (I’m not putting these on a separate list because I think they’re inferior or whatever, I’m putting them on a separate list because most of them took less than an hour to read and I’d feel like a big cheater if I padded my booklist with them.)
Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life- Bryan Lee O’Malley* Scott Pilgrim vs. The World- Bryan Lee O’Malley* Scott Pilgrim & the Infinite Sadness- Bryan Lee O’Malley* Scott Pilgrim Gets It Together- Bryan Lee O’Malley* The Plain Janes- Cecil Castellucci & Jim Rugg* Janes in Love- Cecil Castellucci & Jim Rugg* Good as Lily- Derek Kirk Kim & Jesse Hamm Emiko Superstar- Mariko Tamaki & Steve Rolston The New York Four- Brian Wood & Ryan Kelly Token- Alisa Kwitney & Joelle Jones Water Baby- Ross Campbell Confessions of a Blabbermouth- Mike & Louise Carey, Aaron Alexovich Clubbing- Andi Watson & Josh Howard Courtney Crumrin and the Night Things- Ted Naifeh Courtney Crumrin and the Coven of Mystics- Ted Naifeh Courtney Crumrin in the Twilight Kingdom- Ted Naifeh Black Metal- Rick Spears & Chuck BB*
(*Faves)
Fives Albums I Quite Enjoyed This Year:
Vampire Weekend (Me and everyone else, I know. But it’s a good album. And it made me want to listen to a bunch of Paul Simon. So… that happened.)
Golden Delicious- Mike Doughty (Not his best, but I dig it.) Stay Positive- The Hold Steady (Forgot about this one. It's so much fun, and I enjoy it way more than the Doughty album.)
Vol. 1- She & Him (Yep.)
Vivian Girls (Low-fi, with pretty girly harmonies- that’s my shit!)
Who Killed Amanda Palmer- Amanda Palmer (So, I bought this yesterday, but I’m gonna go ahead and say it’s my favorite album of the year. Leeds United is a fantastic song that I basically want to put on repeat for like a week.)

03:43 am I got a library card today. Maybe I've been spoiled, but I was really disappointed with the Lexington Public Library. The free parking was great, but I was shocked to see how tiny and disorganized it is. One floor for nonfiction? Wow. Four or five of the books I wanted weren't even in the catalog. I knew Cincinnati had one of the best library systems in the country, but this was all a huge bummer.
But having a library card and being registered to vote in Kentucky? Really make me feel like I live here. Crazy.
Things are starting to happen on the class reunion front. November 29 at Applewood. Let's drink some cocktails and make fun of the douchebags that tortured us for being weirdos. We are fucking awesome.
Also, I'm pretty stoked about the upcoming Elephant 6 Collective Variety Show. It's October 23 at the Red Mile- if anyone wants to come, I have a fabulous uncomfortable sleeper-sofa with your name on it, just call me.

08:05 pm I'm still here, but I don't have a bunch to say most of the time.
Here's a link to my Twitter, where I say things that are not interesting enough to say here. Fellow Twits, feel free to add me.

06:50 pm - Booklist '07 So... I guess I haven't posted since my birthday. Oops. Here's my booklist. It seems short? Like maybe I forgot a few?

Favorites in bold, as usual. Super-awesome faves this year were the new Potter book (obviously), St. Lucy's Home for Girls Raised by Wolves (seriously. SERIOUSLY. HOLY FUCK.), and Fall on Your Knees.
Least favorite books of the year are Special Topics in Calamity Physics (too forced, too precious, ughhhghghg), and Look Both Ways, by Jennifer Baumgardner (which is not on the actual booklist because I hated it so much I abandoned it with only a few pages left).
Favorite book-related thing this year: seeing Sister Spit perform at UK. It was rad. You know I heart Michelle Tea.
And some music stuff-
Favorite album of 2007: MIA, Kala. Damn, that shit is awesome.
Bedroom Dancing album of the year: Amy Winehouse, Back to Black.
Gloomy Day album of the year: Tegan and Sara, the Con
Guilty Pleasure album of the Year: Mika, Life in Cartoon Motion

02:44 am Ugh, this weather is seriously fucking with my sinuses. I'm not really sure if I'm sick again, or if I'm still sick. Not that it matters. What matters is that I feel like shit, and I'd like for that to stop. And the first one of you to tell me that my smoking has something to do with this gets kicked. Hard.
Carnivàle is a pretty awesome show, so far. I've only just started the second dvd, but I like the feel of it a lot. And, uh, Clea Duvall.

09:36 pm - my soapbox Sorry to get all preachy twice in one day... but I've been asked a couple of times about my plans Friday, and I wanted to let my friends know that:
1. I am working, which is no big deal because in airport-world, it's just a regular (non-crazy) day.
2. I am participating in Buy Nothing Day again (except that I might have to buy lemonade, because I'm not allowed to bring liquids to work). Try it, not doing the whole hysteria-thing feels good.

02:11 am Did you know that 26 is the age limit for the HPV vaccine? It's a series of 3 shots over a six-month period, so if you're old like me and thinking about doing it (and you reallllly should), now's the time, ladies!
I'm calling my doctor tomorrow.

03:36 am Remember those Fisher-Price roller skates that were adjustable and fit over your shoes? I guess they don't make 'em anymore. I've been cruising the Toys R Us website looking for them, and all I'm seeing are these asinine Barbie In-Line Bullshit Skates. I had been planning on buying a pair of skates as a Presentmas gift for a certain little kid. Bummer. I had a pair when I was little, and I reallyreally loved them.
Oh, but I did find this thing... and I want it SOOOOO BAD.
Okay, bedtime for me. After a big glass of whiskey and honey, of course. I'm almost done with being sick, but the cough is driving me (and probably everyone else) fucking nuts, and as usual I've refused to take cough medicine because it makes me feel wonky. So. Bourbon and locally produced wildflower honey (which Jody says is good for allergies). Yummers.

01:57 am My Neti Pot came in the mail today! I was a little scared to try it out, but things seem to have gone swimmingly. I can breathe through my nose and smell things (vast improvement), and I managed not to drown myself. Awesome.
(I'll admit, I was a little disappointed that nothing disgusting came out, but I'm reallllly stoked about having squeaky-clean sinuses.)
